“The week I sat down to balance my Budget”

I sat down at my desk with a budget and plan; money came and money went and I wanted to better understand

I saw bill statements for gas and groceries, power and rent, WiFi and cable — which all made sense, but where was the rest of what I had spent?

I searched deeper and deeper, I scrolled further and further down my banks transaction history list-there should have been more money, what did I miss?

I saw purchases for milk, bread, peanut butter and cheese, everyday items I purchased with ease. That all made sense — but the next several purchases much less so, I didn’t remember spending any of my money and wanted to see where did it go?

There was more food, doordash and such, cleaning supplies and digital subscriptions that charged way too much. There were steaming services, and movies, and late night amazon sprees; road trips and ball games and plenty of parking ticket fees. Even though those are wasteful, even though I digress, that didn’t surprise me nearly as much as what I found next:

Bags of fine tea imported from China, and boxes of fireworks from South Carolina. Cases of fine wine from the south of France, an Italian leather sofa and techno records from Japan. A bill for a motorcycle rental from somewhere along Morocco’s rocky shore-lined coast, a humidifier, a purifier, and a stainless steel Belgian waffle maker that can make French toast.

I scratched my head- I tried to remember, but I hadn’t sat down to review my bills since last December. I saw charges for overdrafts, late notices and fees, interest accumulated on some investments, i.o.u.s and tax freebees. By the time I summed it all up and totaled the last columns down, I was somewhere around ten billion dollars down.

So I did what I could, I’m a rational man-I sat back in my chair and I made a new plan. Since I couldn’t balance the budget or even total the score I went back to my computer and purchased some more.

Now I own three houses, the moon, and a plane; I purchased a night club and the weather so that I can make it rain. My house is in order, my budget back up to date. Take out some scratch pen and paper to list out your budget before it's to late!
